After being closed for a complete redevelopment, the new Whiteley Community Café opened to the public on Monday 21st July.
Prior to this, teams and volunteers joined with residents to enjoy homemade cakes, cold drinks and coffee at a special preview event on Friday the 18th July which welcomed over 150 residents from all corners of the village.
Located in the Clubhouse on Octagon Road, the spaces have undergone a complete overhaul. Grants and fundraising from Elmbridge Borough Council, Surrey County Council, Walsingham Care and the Whiteley Community Church have enabled the Trust to install a new state-of-the-art coffee machine, build a fully accessible toilet, refit the kitchens with new appliances and completely refresh the décor and flooring inside. Additionally, the area to the side of the building and terrace at the back have been made safe and accessible along with new patio furniture.
The café is open to residents, the local community and anyone visiting the area Mondays – Fridays from 10am – 4pm initially but the aim is to extend the opening times and menus in the near future. Anyone buying a hot drink will get a loyalty card to qualify for a free hot drink after filling their card with stamps. Adjacent to the café itself, the rooms have been named the ‘Whiteley Lobby’ and the ‘Whiteley Lounge’ with each offering a choice of settings for visitors. Dogs are welcome on leads in the Lobby or on the terrace and water will be provided. There are gluten free and vegan choices as well as cold drinks, beers, wines, fresh sandwiches and cream tea options. You can read more about the café by clicking below:
